Reflections: Discrimination contd..

The last piece talked about Discrimination being the first casualty of creation. The life's purpose would therefore be to end this & merge in ONE. So all my karma seek His favor -- Parameswara preethy artham part-- & is followed by "I am doing such & such karma" completing the intent for prescribed daily "vidhis.

But for any other specific ritual, an elaborate "samkalpam" is made invoking some specific deity's Grace etc.  And when this is for purificatory ritual like a ganga bath, a Pitru tharpanam, etc after seeking His favor part, the rama smaranena eva part comes.  .,

The word "Rama"  I strongly feel is used merely as a metaphor. Rama means removal of darkness. The first part of purifying myself & then thinking of rama to rid me of sins are both essentially a prequel to getting to a mindset - termed "bhaavam". This word Bhavam can be interpreted as a sincere trust/feeling or to be more in sync with current times, a mind-set. And what are those "bhaavam"  parts? These are that

(1) I need to be pure to perform the ritual.

(2) I am in darkness & need to see light. This can happen only by ridding myself of every sin conceivable both in mind & deed.

So going back to that elaborate samkalpam : This will be the sequence:

Seeking the Lord's favor (parameswara preethyartham) & feeling right away that one needs to first purify him-herself, one thinks of Pundarikaaksha. Continuing in the same vein, we contemplate on Rama- the dispeller of darkness -- as the only way to rid ourselves of all sins. With this mindset, & in absolute trust, one then reels off every conceivable sin that can  come in the way of absolution & even while asserting that the following action would help rid of them, get to the actual performance of the deed.

(Incidentally Mana Eva samsarah & Chttha eva sansarah are two upanishad quotes. It is interpreted as "bodily action is not karma but only bhaavam is". Every action is for Him kind of bhaavam rids one of even  doer-ship attachment. The reference to rama - to remove darkness- implying I cannot be the doer, seems very apt)

My misgivings about the sequence/context of this rama smaranena eva part therefore gets a  comforting samaadhaanam.....

I hope I am making sense........
