Reflections

The next in this ongoing series.......

One of the tragedies of our times is - to my mind - that the Zest for knowledge is slowly and perceptibly being  taken over by a craze for information. (It's also relevant to note that we have even a course in technology for Information!!)

One of the by-products of this craze? Social sites like the FB/Twitter etc, have taken this craze to new heights; Any info is "awesome" including someone announcing that he is off for  a bath or worse a "loo". !!!!.

It's not as if it's a very new or novel phenomenon. Knowledge was always a preserve of a few, information was more easily shared. For instance the early Brahmins; they had knowledge but were loathe to share, and we had SOPs, info digest etc etc....The result? Today we have a huge backlash.

In early days people had trust in the few who had knowledge, slowly it became a belief, and democracy ensured that even this belief was to be decided by a "vote". First casualty was the Lord Jesus Himself (Barabaas was the one who was believed and voted for pardon).

Long live democracies especially the largest in terms of population (that is my Bharat Mahaan stupid) which will ensure that the right man will never ever rule.......We will however have huge info base available with that rabble rousing gang more popularly known as the Electronic media guys to keep us in "awesome" mood for ever.......

What an absolutely awesome thought.....maybe its best we revert to the pre-internet age where knowledge and even information was the preserve of a select few and the right people were in power ( notwithstanding Indira Gandhi, Hitler, Idi Amin et al) . Of course we might just have a model to follow in North Korea where there is practically no internet and an absolutely awesome leader :).

  2. There is this saying (Oscar Wilde?) "dont believe anything till it is officially denied".

Going by the comments of Madhuri - the quintessential modern age representative - I am beginning to actually believe (or trust?) that I am on the right track........To quote Mcdonald "I am loving it"

May God bless me and also others who are and are-not with me on this......

Oh come on Chittappa.....you never needed anyone's approval or denial to believe you are on the "right track". Of course, you always are :).

"Qunitessential Modern Age Representative" is a very fancy sounding title and I shall assume it with immediate effect considering my otherwise um-employed status.

  4. Thanks!!!!!!!!

Just a point. My observation about democracies not able to elect the right man ever was more in the Indian context. Today's scene seem to re-inforce this cynical view.
