Ponderable Quotes – Spiritual

Many a time after finding a particular quote to be specially good and attractive, but not having enough patience to blog /save it for sharing it later, I have regretted it later. And similarly quite often I find to my pleasant surprise –when going thru some old papers – that I had indeed taken pains to jot down some of these gems. For instance today, as I was rummaging thru some old papers, I came across a few jottings which were impressive enough. So instead of bothering too much about how to classify them I decided that under an omnibus title as above, I will just reproduce them in the blog for all to share in.

It is again my request that some contributions come forth from you all.

Here I go…..

The first is a quote from Jiddu Krishnamoorthy.

“The description is not the described; I can describe the mountain, but the description is not the mountain, and if you are caught up in the description, as most people are, then you will never see the mountain”.

Second is a Hindi description of the samskrit words “yoga” and “kshema” which goes like this (I have translated this to English)

“To get what you do not have is “yoga” and to protect what you have is “kshema”.

Third: A Hindi translation of a samskrit sloka (again my translation into English) about “aathma”- the Brahmn.

One who whose body is the individual soul, and who is inside but yet not perceived and residing inside directs/guides the individual soul, is your “aathma” the all-knowing effulgent, indestructible, never dying nectar-the brahmn.

Fourth…..Culled from various dictionary meanings and discourses etc. the meaning of the word “bhadram”

“A blissful state of self-realization completely devoid of ignorance and false knowledge”. Recall the famous “Bhadram karnebhihi….. etc” and our sandhya vandanam last part Yadh Bhadram tanma aasuva” meaning “let all that is bhadram permeate my inner self”.

Folks for a new title this is a good beginning methinks. Hope there will be more from you and of course me……. Love Vichu
