Vichiism - Humour

I had voiced my anguish in the past, to some of you, regarding the absence of good quality humour, in any religious text. Humour to my mind can provide all of us a fine safety valve, to be used to release pain, and tension, when acutely needed. And if it forms even a miniscule part in these texts, methinks it will have an official sanction, and save us from the contemptive dismissal it evokes from the purely orthodox, as being something frivolous, and not conducive to the "liberation" path.

Last saturday and Sunday, I had been to a couple of plays by a Chennai based troupe, which is known for it's comedy shows. Crazy Mohan is the popular name by which the owner of the troupe is known by. Though he and his team come across as a bunch of guys with a good sense of humour, their plays, perhaps due to the compulsions of commercial success, are so full of "sellable" comedy, that their innate sense of humour tends to lose out. The witnessing of this show(s) triggered a chain of thoughts, prompting me to pen a few "vichiisms". I do hope you will (a) enjoy them, and (b) respond as an evidence of your "liking it". Here I go :-

1. Humour apparently is a very serious business.

2. Ability to sustain humour purely for humour's sake is inversely proportional to evolution of one's intellect.

3. There is some humour in seeing others' discomfiture, when facts are unknown to them, but known to you. Similarly God seems to have had a tremondous sense of humour, when He made His "creation" and to be sure, He must be roaring in mirth, at our ignorance of "truth".

4. "creation" is a huge comedy, scripted, produced, directed, by Him, which very few people can understand, let alone enjoy, and have a laugh, and appears to us as great tragedy.

5. Humour without a message, aimed at others, can only be termed, sadistic.

Hope, folks, you will all come on board with good rejoinders.

Love

Vichu
