I had mentioned to Annapoorni Manni, a story I remembered about Kalidasa, when she typed this message from Cypress. Probably all of you know this but, anyway at the cost of being irritatingly repititive here I go -
When kalidasa returned to meet his wife after getting his gyaanam from Goddess Kali, his wife is supposed to have asked him - "Asti Vaak Kaschit?" Literally translated as "is there any tongue?" And, Kalidasa , now with the blessing of goddess Kali herself is supposed to have responded to each word with a mahakavya beginning with them - "ASTI Bharatasya Uttare Himalayo Nama Nagadhiraja" "VAAK Arthaapika Samprakthau, Vaakartha Pratipaththaye, Jagatah Pitrau Vande Parvati Parameshwarau" "KASCHIT Kaantha Virahguruna Svaadhikaramah Pramaththa" The errors in the shlokas being attributed to my memory, I request the GEN NEXT (that is, my generation, i.e. Anand, Umashankar, Umesh ....) to emulate Kalidasa by writing a blog on each of Annapoorni Manni's words in her first message. Next, I request the Dhruv generation to check out the web and find of which mahakavyas these shlokas are the first from amongst Kalidasa's works? Since my comment begins with an "I", I presume that word is out of contention for the gen next:>
As 'Hmmmm' - this seems to be an interesting passing of time!
As 'Mmmmm' - early bird get the juicy worm! Lucky (if no-one pipping me to the 'post'(!)) to be getting the 'Am'
As 'm... the last syllable of the mystical Aum, the lasting vibration of the primordial / initial sound, the sense of time in which we 'continue' into the silence. I leave it to the gen-previous (sic!), to expound.
As 'Am' ... well 'I am' is probably the MOST profound philosophy that I have heard of and much more rarely, experienced.
Heard of, the first time was Appa with the famous Bible quote, where Jesus makes an apparent grammatical faux-pas while saying 'Before Abraham was, I am'; and the young Anand not 'getting it' even after Appa explained it half a dozen times why one needs to see beyond the error (lost in translation from Aramaic?).
Heard of next, when the Pranic Healing teacher expounded on 'I am that I am' (while Vedanta, the Bible (also) again I realized later); which the 30 year old Anand understood a little better.
Experienced, as cliched as it might sound, in experiences when most alone with nature ... be it mountains (and I haven't even visited the Himalaya), seas, forests, deserts, or even birds-animals on Discovery / Nat Geo.
That's it. I would like to share Naresh's enthusiasm on the next gen digging up Kalidasa or Jesus (herefrom), but find it a little tough on them. Post 18 at least, methinks.
However, here's something for Vichu Athan to dig up - heard of Jesus's cry to God 'Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachtani?' The context and human/spirit understanding therein is most touching.
