Marwari and the Lord : Short Story (For Children)

Hello the batman, and other kids in the family.

It has been sometime since I wrote to you last, and thought I must make up with a story I read sometime back. I hope you will all respond with your comments namely whether you liked it, and whether there is any message you are able to read in the story etc. Will you promise that beta?

The story goes like this. In a small town, there is this temple dedicated to Lords Shiva, Parvathy, and Ganesh. Outside the temple there is a beggar, who religiously comes to the temple, every day, and lives by the alms given by devotees visiting the temple. His devotion to the Lord, is absolute, whatever he gets he would take it as Lords Will, and remember the Lord all the time.

One day, Parvathy, considering the fellow's devotion, and his difficulties in managing his big family of wife and children, asks Shiva, to bless this poor fellow. Shiva tells her that He will see that this is done, and asks Ganesh to ensure that the fellow gets a lakh of rupees by midnight the next day. This conversation is heard by a marwari devotee, and he decides to appropriate this for himself or at least make some profit based on this knowledge.

He goes to this beggar, and tells him that having seen him in such poor state, he would like to help him with money, but the beggar must also part with something in return. When the latter agrees, the marwari says he will give Rs 10,000/ to him, and in return the poor fellow must give 50% of whatever he gets the next day. The beggar suddenly begns to smell something and says the deal is not acceptable to him. Both of them then haggle over the amount till finally the marwari agrees to part with 75,000/ if in return, the beggar promises to give him all his takings in the next day. ( a cool 25,000 profit ).

The next day, the Marwari comes to the beggar, and tells him not to stir from his seat, till the day is over, so that by midnight, all his earnings can be passed on as promised. The day passes and nothing happens and the marwari gets worried. And by midnight when the worships are about to be over, and nothing happening he feels terribly angry that The Lords have deliberately led him to lose Rs 75000/. He then gets inside the temple, and in a fit of rage pulls the trunk of Lord Ganesh's idol.

The moment he does that, the Lord tightens His grip on marwaris hands. Simultaneously, there are these words heard by the Marwari; Parvathi wants to know from Ganeshji, whether the promised 1 lakh has been delivered. Lord Ganesh replies thus: "I have already given Rs 75000/ yesterday, and the poor fellow said that the amount was adequate. However since he has been fated to get a lakh, he was in the process of making sure that this was done soonest!! When the marwari hears this, wisdom dawns on him, and he begs the Lord to release his hands and promises that he will give the rest Rs25000/ to the poor fellow, himself.

It is then that the Lord tells the marwari thus : It's Lord's wish that the poor fellow is to get his bonanza, and not knowing precisely the ways of Lord, it was indeed stupid of him to imagine that he can appropriate that to himself. Having said this, He however blesses him and takeshis leave.

I leave this story here, and would love to hear your comments .

Love

Vichu thatha.
