Perhaps the single most underrated advantages of guilt is Creativity – Yes, creativity!
In case you find this ludicrous, read on
Of late I have been under the pressure from near and dear ones to cut down on snacking. My favorite Nachos – the cheese flavor has had to be eschewed instead of being chewed, which is the universal method of disposing it.
Having bought a bag in spite of sanctions against such purchases, I was ridden with a sense of guilt. Well, after struggling for a great part of the weekend over what to do with it, I realized that I could make a Nachos Raita.
The recipe is simple efficient and I hope mitigating.
Take a large cup (I used a empty 400 g Yoghurt pack). Fill about one third from the bottom with laban (thick buttermilk is called laban here in Jubail). Smash Nachos , about a handful into it. Chop an apple into about 18 to 24 pieces and put it into the cup. Mix and eat.
The Apple should keep the doctor away, the laban should counteract the constipation factor of the apple and the nachos can be eating without guilt in the mixture. That is provided you can stomach the taste!
Try it, it’s not so bad after all! Maybe we can even sell this recipe to Doritos the Manufacturer of the brand of Nachos and pay for the methi and amla powder that I have to eat each morning!
Only when there is a need, creativity manifests. There is karnatic raaga by name "aahiri" which if sung is supposed to deprive one of his food. I had always wondered about the logic of creation of a ragam which would get someone in such dire straits. Till I heard a more profound explanation; "aahiri" is supposed to be so spiritually potent, that it makes one rid of "pasi" in Tamil, Bhook in Hindi, and hunger in English. With Paapi peth, taken care of realization path should be the most easy next logical step.
ReplyDeleteThe lesson for us in Jignyaasaa ? Sing aahiri 24 hrs, you don't need neither nachos, nor laban... you will be "magan" all the time....in absolute blissful "nirvana".
It will be our patent Jignyaasaa solution to world's hunger!!!

Notwithstanding ALV's raag ahiri, the following two points about the Nachos raita are important to my mind -
ReplyDelete1. In case you plan to add Nachos raita as apart of the menu, I suggest that you crumple the nachos in the apple laban mix just before serving. The crunchiness of the nachos is lost other wise.
2. Maybe ghee-roated whole pepper about a teasponful would give the necessary "pick-me-up" to the concoction. Salt to taste of course goes without saying, but should be unnecessary as the falvors of nachos should permeate into the raita naturally.
Eating within five minutes of nachos addition is recommended.
Mothers can use this as a suitably ploy to feed their little ones with apple and laban!
Interesting recipe! You did not mention about the temperature for the laban. Guess cold from the fridge will add to the yummy value.. :-)
ReplyDeleteIt comes close to chella thatha's idea of eating crisp roasted papad (not fried) with curd-rice and vattal-kozhambu!
It was only last year that I discovered (on Madhuri's suggestion) the fun of eating cornflakes in cold milk. The crispiness of the flakes remains if consumed soon after mixing unlike the soggy texture of the flakes in hot milk !
