It has been my belief, that when one revisits his own old pieces of writings, and still finds them surprisingly good, it is a confirmation, that one is past the "fail" mark. Just for a re-assurance I re-read the first blog, posted on 1st March 09, and though it was my piece, and I should not judge myself, I was quite impressed!!!!! A Narcisistic streak?
I dismissed the thought, immediately, with the reasoning that, till one is able to satisfy one's own critique, there was no meaning in sharing anything with others. In other words, unless, I like what I write, there is no way, I can expect others to appreciate it. Well, whether they also do is not easy to assess, as in these synthetic times, either one is affectedly profuse with praises, or embarassingly silent so as to be easily be mistaken for being uncivil.
The "jignyaasaa" blog is six months old; we have over a hundred listings ( or is posting the word) which averages over 15/16 a month or over 4 a week. This is without counting the responses, which in effect means that not withstanding my protests ( misplaced?) we seem to have done well. Have we really? Before I attempt an answer, let me digress a little and dwell on the "responses" part of our blog.
I don't know how many of you are familiar with tambrahms traditional "kolu" festival. During dusserah, in many of the households, dolls of various hues, are displayed and every one visits every one else for a "dekho". It is a tradition to ask the visitors, especially the females, to sing, with "appearing to be busy" requirement mandatory for every one, especially the host's family. And there is also the typically tambrahm signature of "noise pollution". In this lively mayhem, the singer is expected to give his best in sublimal bhakthi, with a few who are really intersted, finding themselves unable either to enjoy the recital or to prevent others from being oblivious when the recital is good, and to make them see the beauty of such rendition.
The worst is yet to come; a very good piece, is followed by an enthusiast, but least versed, in an entirely different pitch, and in absolute confidence, about their ability in delivering a piece which is immensely likeable. Thereafter comes the hosts wholesome praise, for all the renderings, and distribution of prasadams. This goes on for 10 days, during which every household is full of left over prasadams they had made, plus brought overs from all over the colony, where you were invitees. Finally the allegedly weaker of the sexes, is left to clean up this mess, by the stronger of the human species, without a trace of empathy. The former incredibly all are made of much sterner stuff, and take all this in their stride and await the next day's entertaintment and mayhem, with terrific unaffected enthusiasm.
Before I get totally lost with this entertaing "digress" let me come back to my original theme, that of "responses". Though they are all exceptional pieces by themselves, many of them are fit to be separate pieces. In other words , the responses, sometimes resemble the continuance of rendering by different people in a "kolu" , when these are meant to be a response/critique to the main blog. Another unintendedly unfortunate resemblance, is the inability to digest/enjoy/comment on the contents of a blog, with everyone being overloaded with "work", which leaves very little time at disposal for our ever increasing hobbies/social visits/other household chores etc, kinda regime, that sacrificing something for another activity seems inescapable. What we have is a left over prasadam which are all individually good and at appropriate times but difficult to partake after the rigours of the day, and with stomachs full already.
Jignyaasaa means a quest to know ( my understanding) and not necessarily restricted to matters eternal. When this portal was in the embryonic stage, the idea was that, the one's queries will probably get addressed, by the participation of everyone in a debate, and will hopefully ensure, some relief to doubts/scepticisms galore, while at the same time keep us all in a loop to exchange news, to lighten the oldies moods.
The portal has lived up only to its name..... our doubts/misgivings/views/ have been posted. Gulpa's ponderable view that costant enquiry will lead to a moment of "silence" is not visible. I would be happy if everyone of us reflects on this and comes forward with suggestions to make it much more lively and participative, without losing its raison d' etre. I would hate to lose a platform to voice anything and everything that comes to my mind. But this can be more meaningful and hence the gen-next's suggestions is important. Gulpa is now actively participating, his views will also be of great help.
Well folks, I now yield the floor to you......Think and make this a glorious venture......
Love
Vichu
