Vichu's Poetry - Quest for "meaning of life"

Madhuris, 99th post, gives me the chance to pen the 100th , though Naresh had done the earlier100th, going by the dashboard figure.

Folks, I hope you will continue to indulge this old man, by reading/ posting/commenting on this poem, as also my later proses!!

My poem entitled "Quest for meaning of life" for all of you!!!!

The last few years in my carreer,
with little pressure from any peer,
life looked full of idyllic contentment,
only to be awakened by thought of imminent retirement.

When uncertainties of future loomed large,
it forced a rethink and to take charhge.
Interest into religious texts to dwell,
Thought I, will keep me hale and well.

To a mind trying to find a balance,
between the needs of the temporal,
and the desires of the eternal,
neither the advice of financial wizards,
nor the puranas, vedas, upanishads et al,
were capable of bringing any peace at all.

Past is dead, future is uncertain,
so think of present as a gift given,
was a mantra, advocated by one,
humour is the best cure said another one,
but frankly answer to unease could be found by none.

Alas, if only, the unsound wisdom,
was not really my style during past,
when thoughts of future arose seldom,
and humour was always in uniform,
today's worry would not have to last.

In this turmoil, was born an aasha,
to search for life's meaning,
by writing my mind in a blog named jignyaasaa,
created exclusively by my kith and kin,
to aid me to rid myself of my inner din,
and to find that abiding Peace.

In this journey of meandering mind,
which keeps groping for the path to find,
realises that the cause for all ills,
is not lack of knowledge, resources, or reading,
but presence of "fear" and foreboding,
accumulated over years of false learning,
by a cosmopolitan mixture of social lubrication.

Jignyaasaa's is about transcending from unknown to known,
as the purpose of life is to rid itself of "fear"
from the fears of unknown, by ourselves,
as Gods do not even pretend to send anyown,
to come to our help in succour.

Like it folks?

Love

Vichu

  1. VICHU'S QUEST AND MADHURI'S ON PREGNANCY

Vichu's outpouring grievances are becoming predictable even if they are genuine and shared without question by all.Mere expression of grievance yields much relief though it does draw the listener into an enquiry about what to do about grievance.I am in no mood to offer any prescriptions, not even attempting to share my own experience of what I perceive as suffering.I might still want to say that when strongly expressed grievances lead finally to a state of silence, there is peace.

The nature of all human beings is to be excited by the process of creation and quite naturally therefore, there is palpable rejoicing when a child is on its way to join all of us.Pregnancy must be a wonderful experience except when the romance is subdued,to say the least by a nagging physical condition such as Kalyani has been enduring. It appears she will finally be delivered only after delivering.

    God bless us all.

  2. Oh, poor girl - its that bad is it ? In almost all cases , by the end of the first trimester - women get pretty comfortable.
The wonderful thing about pregnancy woes ( and even soemthing as bad as labour in a normal birth - probably the worst pain that can be experienced) - its all forgotten very soon after the birth.
So Kalyani will have to grit her teeth for a couple of more weeks - and then..............relief and joy !!! :-)

  3. Dear Chittappa

Was away from personal emails for a while, and just now saw this wonderful poem. It is nice! I also saw the latest appraisal of Jignyaasaa. My humble opinion is that the person who has the urge to write and express himself will continue to do so even in the complete absence of any feedback! To give a flattering example, a rose does not bloom conditional on someone appreciating its beauty :). It blooms because it is in its nature to do so. (This example is borrowed from J Krishnamurthy, Ramaseshan Mama quoted this to me.)
