To begin with I define 3 words to form the basis for this monograph -
Organization – Any entity or conception that represents a “whole”.
Organism – A part of the “whole”, which has many “look-alikes” within the organization. Organisms make up along with their look-alikes, complements and other organisms, "the organization", lending to it a “composite but diverse” and wholesome nature. Again, an organism can be an entity or conception or both in itself.
Individual - Any organism which displays an independent cognizance of itself.
Now, Capitalism, when it started and even now as it is evolves, relies on the following principle –
“It is ethically acceptable to exploit the organization for the comfort of the individual”
And, by the same token, Communism accepts the following dictum –
“It is ethically acceptable to exploit the individual for the comfort of the organization”
Over the passage of history both schools of thought have alternately adopted “Divine Rights” (or Monarchy) or “Individual Rights” (or Democracy) for their propagation. (See note at the end explaining the relationship)
In our age as “Democracy” has become de-riguer, both Communism and Capitalism have jostled for power by progressively leveraging the third, namely, “organism”. This has happened by way of giving importance to it and clubbing everything else that is not included in the term “individual” under the “environment”.
Thus, both Capitalism and Communism are canvassing for attention by adopting an attitude of “minimal exploitation of the organism for maximal comfort of the individual/ organization” within “ethically acceptable limits” as defined by their proponents from time to time.
Corresponding economic theories and fluctuations of power of their proponents has decided the demographics of the political world.
Note – “Divine Rights” relates to Monarchy, in the sense of, divine sanction for “Mono” (single person, “Individual” (?)) to set the “ethically acceptable limits”. “Individual Rights” relates to Democracy, in the sense of (divine (?)), sanction for “Demos” (People) to set the “ethically acceptable limits”. Seen in this light, both Capitalism and Communism are inherently contradictory hence they need to limit their appeal by addressing only the economic aspects of life, and cannot become a basis for setting “ethically acceptable limits”, as they tend to be, in an interpretation of Democracy, in our age.
Seen. Interesting, but will take time to sink in. I need time to comment.

I have read it again. Still I have not fully comprehended, especially the one regarding leveraging the third namely "organism" part. I will leave it for the moment.
ReplyDeleteIn your enunciation of the principles of both capitalism and communism, you have, used a prefix "ethically acceptable".
I feel instead the prefix "pragmatic" in their place would more aptly describe their motivating principle. Even ethical values have to have a relevance in practical terms. No body wants "Varattu vedantham". Ethical values are similar.
